Campaign work has a brief

Agency and public sector shoots are different from a corporate day. There is a shot list, somebody has already sold the concept to a client, and the frames have to drop into a layout that exists. The job is to deliver those frames, and then to find the two nobody planned that turn out to be the ones they use.

Working somewhere that does not stop for you

Kitchens, roasteries, boat clubs and shop floors run on their own rhythm, and it does not pause for a photographer. You wait, you stay out of the way, and you are ready when the thing happens.

The frames that get used are almost never the posed line-up. They are the ones with a job going on in them.

Consent and release

Public sector campaigns need consent handled properly, particularly where members of the public or young people appear. I work to whatever release process you already run, and I would rather sort the paperwork before the shoot than discover a problem when the campaign is at proof stage.

Common questions

Can you work to an agency shot list?

Yes. Send the list and the layout it feeds, and I will shoot to it, flag anything that will not work in the available light or location before the day, and deliver the frames in the crops the layout needs.

How do you handle consent for people in campaign images?

To whatever process your organisation already uses. Bring your release forms and I will make sure everybody photographed has signed one, or that the frames are shot so that identifiable faces do not appear.
